FAQs

General Questions
Who is Amber?

Electrified Garage and Amber have worked together to offer customized repair plans tailored specifically with the modern EV owner in mind.

Amber is a San Francisco-based startup with a mission to extend the lifespan of electric vehicles by making EV repair hassle-free. Amber is a licensed and regulated vehicle service contract provider; which means that they not only design, underwrite, and provide Electrified Care plans but also review and reimburse claims in-house.

Amber Warranty Services II, Inc.
2261 Market Street #5280, San Francisco, CA 94114
Florida Company Code 54777

How is Electrified Care different from a traditional extended warranty?

Traditional extended warranty providers designed their products and services for the combustion engine era. Their business models are incompatible with EVs, which have many differences from their ICE counterparts.

Electrified Care was built differently.

Instead of building on top of ICE repair plans, repair networks, and tow providers, Electrified Garage and Amber have worked with EV technicians, experts, and driver communities to design a mechanical breakdown coverage from the ground up that makes EV repair feel hassle-free.

This way, our customers have specialized plans that have the coverage and benefits that are tailored to their EV and EV ownership needs .

Where is Electrified Care available?

Electrified Care is available to FL, NH, NJ, PA, OH, MI, MN, RI & TN residents. We are rapidly expanding to additional states in the coming weeks, stay tuned. For more information, contact us at either a Electrified Garage location or email care@electrifiedgarage.com.

Unable to bring your vehicle in for an inspection? Don't worry. Check out the different plans our partner offers on getamber.com for the same great coverage.

How do you keep my information private?

We highly value and respect your privacy (see our Privacy Policy). We will never sell your information, or share it with anyone except to provide our services and promote our business.

Policy
What is Electrified Care?

Electrified Care repair plans cover your EV against unexpected mechanical breakdown upon your manufacturer's warranty expiration. The list of parts that Electrified Care covers depends on the coverage type you select. In the event of a covered breakdown, we will reimburse you or the repair shop for the costs associated with parts and labor.

Repair plans are colloquially referred to as auto extended warranties, and legally called vehicle service contracts or mechanical breakdown insurance (MBI), depending on the state you reside in.

How much is Electrified Care?

The price of your plan depends on the make, year, and model of your EV combined with the coverage length you choose. To receive a quote, please submit the form here or email us at care@electrifiedgarage.com.

Can I purchase Electrified Care if my manufacturer's warranty has expired?

Yes, you can purchase Electrified Care as long as your vehicle has an odometer reading less than 100,000 miles, and your vehicle is 2017 or newer.

How does it work if the manufacturer’s warranty is still effective?

If your manufacturer’s warranty coverage is still active, the manufacturer will cover the breakdown. Electrified Care’s coverage kicks in once your manufacturer’s warranty has expired.

If you have questions on whether you still have an active manufacturer’s warranty coverage, shoot us an email at care@electrifiedgarage.com.

How does Electrified Care’s coverage compare to the manufacturer’s warranty?

Electrified Care high-voltage care plans cover your EV’s battery, drive unit, and other critical components typically covered under the manufacturer’s basic limited warranty. These other high-voltage components, such as your EV’s power conversion system (PCS) and AC compressor, are critical for your EV’s high-voltage system to function properly.

Depending on your EV’s manufacturer, it’s possible that a portion or all of your manufacturer’s warranty may overlap with your coverage period, which can make it difficult to understand who covers what in the event of a breakdown.

As an example, let’s say your Tesla Model S is 6 years old, has 90,000 miles on it, and you purchase Electrified Care now. Most Tesla vehicles come with the following two types of warranties:

1. A battery and drive unit warranty, which covers only the battery and drive unit, and is typically 8 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first.
2. A basic limited warranty that covers the other components in the vehicle, and is typically 4 years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first.

In this example, your manufacturer’s basic warranty would have expired, but your manufacturer’s battery and drive unit warranty is still active.

Electrified Care would start covering your EV’s high-voltage components (e.g., PCS, high voltage controller, AC compressor etc.) right away, and your battery and drive unit after 8 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first.

What does Electrified Care Cover?

Electrified Care protects unexpected vehicle repair due to mechanical failures, rather than yearly maintenance items like cabin air filters or tire rotations. In the event of a covered breakdown, Electrified Care will reimburse you or the repair shop for the costs associated with parts and labor.

The components our Electrified Care plans cover include your EV’s high-voltage battery, drive unit, and other key high-voltage components like the AC compressor and heat pump.

Do you have a waiting period?

Yes, after you have signed your contract, there is a 30-day and 1,000 mile waiting period, whichever comes later.

How much can Electrified Care save me in unexpected repair costs?

Depending on the coverage you select, Electrified Care plans can cover up to $30,000 in repair costs.

How much is the deductible?

The deductible for the High Voltage Protection plan is $500 per repair visit for an Electrified Care-covered breakdown.

Do you cover commercial or rideshare vehicles?

Unfortunately, Electrified Care does not cover commercial vehicles or any vehicles used for rideshare purposes at this time. Please submit your information here, and we’ll let you know when we can offer coverage options for your EV.

Roadside Assistance
Does Electrified Care reimburse me for tows?

In the event of a covered breakdown, we will reimburse you for the costs of towing your EV to the nearest manufacturer service center or Electrified Garage facility. The amount we reimburse depends on the Electrified Care plan you have selected. Please save all receipts associated with the tow and share them with us during your claims process.

Does Electrified Care reimburse me for rentals or alternative transportation (e.g. Uber or Lyft)?

In the event of a covered breakdown, we will reimburse you for the costs associated with a rental vehicle while your EV is in the shop undergoing repair. We also will cover rideshare or public transportation costs if that is more convenient for you. The number of days we cover and daily reimbursement amount will depend on the Electrified Care plan you have selected.

Please save all affiliated receipts and share them with us during the claims process for reimbursement.

Can you recommend EV-friendly towing companies?

As EV owners, we understand that EVs require specific handling and tow equipment. You can find a list of towing providers with prior EV towing here.

Claims
How do I file a claim and assure approval?

Schedule a Diagnosis: If your EV displays any concerning alerts, exhibits a driveability concern or becomes disabled, please take it or have it towed into an Electrified Garage location or any Authorized Repair Facility for a diagnostic inspection.
Start your Claim: Contact care@electrifiedgarage.com or file a claim online to start the claim and let us know the location of the repair facility.
Send us the Estimate: Once the diagnostic is complete, send us the report and repair estimate to care@electrifiedgarage.com.
Get your Repair Approved: Get approval from care@electrifiedgarage.com to start the repair. We’ll send you details of the parts and labor covered by your Electrified Care plan.
Get Reimbursed: Once the repair is complete, send the invoice to care@electrifiedgarage.com and have the repair facility contact EG to receive payment.
Tow and Substitute Transportation: Submit all tow and substitute transportation receipts to care@electrifiedgarage.com.

How will reimbursements for claims work?

Whenever possible, we will directly submit payment to the designated repair facilities, limiting out-of-pocket costs for you. Once the repair is complete, have the repair facility contact care@electrifiedgarage.com in order to receive payment.

How long does it take to process a claim?

We understand time is of the essence when your EV requires mechanical attention. In most cases you’ll receive a decision within 24 hours after you submit your claim.
